Marianne Lovejoy was born and raised in California, where her parents bred and showed Beagles and Great Danes when she was a child. From early on she helped her father and mother take care of their dogs, feeding, cleaning and helping to whelp their litters. Later they mostly had rescues including purebred Great Danes and Shepherds. Marianne has had dogs her whole life and they have always played a central role in her life along with family.
Marianne is a Retired Registered Nurse and worked for the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, as a Quality and Patient Safety Advisor, collaborating with Physicians, Nurses and Multidisciplinary Teams. She has two daughters, who are both married and three Grandchildren.
Throughout the years she has had many different breeds of dogs, many of which were rescues. Marianne has bred, owned and showed Basset Hounds for the last 28 years. She acquired her first Basset Hound when she rescued a young Basset Hound that had bloated and the owner relinquished her. She was able to save her life and brought her home to recover. She was a wonderful dog, a great addition to the household, and the family fell in love with Basset Hounds. Marianne and her daughter raised Basset Hounds through the years under the kennel name Beachside, breeding many litters that have produced Champions, Field Champions, Dual Champions and Dual Grand Champions. She has been very active in performance sports with her Basset Hounds, competing in Conformation, Field Trials, Hunting Performance, Obedience, Agility, Rally and Coursing, in addition to volunteering in the community with her Basset Hounds as therapy dogs. Many of Marianne’s Basset Hounds have earned their Versatility Titles and two have their Versatility Excellent Masters titles.
Marianne is currently the President of the Basset Hound Club of Southern California and Secretary of the Greater San Diego Basset Hound Club, along with Field Trial Secretary for both clubs. She has served as a Board Member and Officer for the Basset Hound Club of America (BHCA), and also served on many committees for the BHCA throughout the years including Field Trial Advisory, Hunting Performance Test, Guidelines and Companion Events.
Thank you to the members of the BHCA for this honor to judge Sweepstakes at the 2026 Nationals, I appreciate this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Marianne Lovejoy
