I’m Katy Vergeront from Wisconsin, and I’ve been involved with dogs for over 30 years. I got my start in 4-H when I was 15 years old with my Basset Hound, Homer, and that’s where my love for the breed and the sport really began. I’ve been breeding Basset Hounds for over 20 years. I started with my first show dog from Jackie Fogel, and from there I realized just how much I loved showing. I spent 10 years working as an assistant handler part-time so I could keep learning and growing in the sport, and that experience taught me so much about dogs and presentation. Over the years, I’ve had many titles and wins behind my dogs, most of them owner-handled, because I truly love being in the ring as much as I love breeding. In 2024, I was incredibly honored to be recognized with Top Producing Dam and Sire. Lately, I’ve really enjoyed sharing what I’ve learned with newer people who love Bassets as much as I do—it brings a fresh energy into the breed. I love this sport and all the friendships that come with it. I’m especially grateful for my strong core group in the Badgerland Basset Hound Club, as well as close friends in other breeds who share the same passion. I’m committed to continuing to breed healthy, beautiful dogs that we can all enjoy and to helping keep this sport alive for future generations.
