Basset Hound Agility in AKC trials tests a Basset Hound’s ability to navigate an obstacle course with speed, accuracy, and teamwork with its handler. While Bassets aren’t traditionally known for agility due to their long bodies and short legs, they can successfully compete and earn titles with proper training and motivation.
Key Aspects of AKC Agility for Basset Hounds:
Courses include tunnels, jumps, weave poles, A-frames, and dog walks.
Classes:
Standard – Includes contact obstacles like the A-frame and seesaw.
Jumpers with Weaves (JWW) – Focuses on speed and jumping ability.
FAST & Time 2 Beat – Additional challenge-based agility formats.
Titles Earned: Dogs progress from Novice (NA, NAJ) to Master Agility Champion (MACH) with qualifying runs.
Agility is a fun and rewarding sport for Basset Hounds, promoting fitness, confidence, and a strong bond with their handler.
