Mariano Galán is an accomplished professional who has served for more than 20 years as Director of Environmental Management in a well-known environmental consulting firm. In 2005, he purchased his first Basset Hound (Obelix) and since then he has bred Basset Hounds under his affix "Morning Dew Sweepers". His dogs or Bassets bred by him have achieved more than 100 championships in multiple countries including the US, and multiple European and South American countries. His Bassets have included five World Winners, three European Winners and award for Best in Breeding group in 2020 World Dog Show. Dogs of his breeding have achieved 40 Best in Show, more than 200 Best in Group and more than 300 Best in Breed.
In addition to serving as President of the Spanish Basset Hound Club (2007 – 2014), where he organized shows, working trials and aptitude tests, he is one of the founding members, and currently the President, of "The Basset Club", a club dedicated to all Basset breeds (Basset Hound, Basset Artesien-Normand, Basset Bleu de Gascogne, Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen and Basset Fauve de Bretagne).
He is a prolific author and seminar presenter on hunting Hounds, including not only Basset Hounds, but also Beagles, GBGV, PBGV, Basset Fauve de Bretagne and multiple European scenting breeds in Europe. As a judge, he is an FCI International Show Judge (judge number ES210), RSCE Judge of Basic Disciplines for Scent Dogs and Judge of the American Kennel Club (judge number 111349). He has judged Basset club shows in Spain, Italy, France, Sweden, Denmark, the United States, Hungary, Germany, and South African.
As a judge, he has a deep knowledge of the standards, origin and history of the breeds of scent hounds and likes to value harmony and the dog as a whole in line with the standard, and he pays special attention to those aspects that allow the dog to perform its functions.
